Major Roy John Rigby-Jones CD

 

RIGBY-JONES - Roy John It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Major Roy John Rigby-Jones on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the age of 88 following a battle with cancer.

 He will be missed by his son Ken (Peggy) and daughter Jill (Peter), granddaughter(s) Shannon (Mike) and Alaina, sister Betty (Bill) and numerous family, friends, business and army acquaintances.

 He commenced his Military career as a cadet in the Irish Fusiliers of Canada in 1936. Later he joined the Regiment as a boy signaler. During World War II he was commissioned from the ranks and served in the British West Indies, United Kingdom and Northwest Europe holding positions that included signals officer, physical training and unarmed combat instructor, infantry platoon commander and infantry training company commander.

 After the war ended, he completed his university education with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and went to work for Revenue Canada until retirement in 1986. He was the holder of the France and German Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal, Canada 125 Commemorative Medal, the Canadian Forces Decoration and the Queens Jubilee Medal. In recognition of his outstanding service to the Army Cadets he was presented with the Executive of the Year Award in 1991 and a 35 year volunteer service medal in 2009.

 The family would like to thank Dr. Germaine, Dr. Choi and the staff of St. Paul 's Palliative Care unit for the wonderful care that he has received during his final days.

 A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 2:00 PM in First Memorial Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Avenue , Port Coquitlam , B.C., phone 604-944-4128. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the St. Paul 's Hospital Foundation .
