Gordon Kirby passed away peacefully Monday, January 5th 2009 at the age of 97
at the Brock Fahrni Pavilion,
Vancouver

BC

Gord graduated from the University of
Saskatchewan
, B.Sc (M.E.) in 1936. He served in the Canadian EME in the
United Kingdom
,
Sicily
,
Italy
and
Europe
and received many medals as well as the M.B.E. After the war he continued to
serve in the Canadian Regular Forces RCEME, residing with his family in
Regina
,
Ottawa
,
Halifax
and
Winnipeg
.
He is survived by his wife
Lorraine Kirby who resides at South Granville Park Lodge and his three daughters
and 5 grandchildren: Catherine McKeehan, Luke; Caroline Park (Michael), Ethan
and Erin; Chris Kirby (Wayne Isley), Jason and
Chad
.
Gord was always active, he
enjoyed golf and was a member at Breezy Bend Club in
Winnipeg
and Hazelmere Golf Club in White Rock. He hit a hole in one on the 8th hole at
Hazelmere in 1991 at age 80. He played his last round at a par 3 round with
Chris at age 95. He was also an avid curler and lawnbowler, a life member of the
Engineering Institute of Canada, and a member of the Royal
United Service Institute of Vancouver and of the Canadian Legion. No
service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gordon
Kirby Scholarship,
