HUNTER
Lloyd Elton September 13, 1917 - July 5, 2009 It is with great sadness that we
announce the passing of a wonderful husband, brother and uncle in his 91st
year. Lloyd is survived by his cherished wife of 69 years,
Doris
, as well as his brother Seth (Norma). Also left to cherish his memory are 13
nieces and nephews. Born in
Govan
,
SK
, Lloyd was a proud veteran of WWII, serving with the Seaforth Highlanders of
Canada, and continued his association with the Seaforths and with the Royal
Canadian Legion throughout his life. Upon Lloyd's early retirement with Canada
Post, he and Doris took to the open road in their motorhome with their
ever-faithful companion dogs. Many summers were spent volunteering at Vernon
Army Cadet Camp and Boy Scouts camps. As a recent resident of Broadway
Pentecostal Lodge, Lloyd received wonderful care from their staff. The family
also extends special thanks to the Care Aides at ABC Home Services, the
doctors and nursing staff at VGH, and to his many friends and caring
neighbours. Lloyd will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will
be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at First Memorial Funeral Services,
602 Kingsway, Vancouver. Donations to the BC SPCA or Aid to Animals in
Distress would be gratefully appreciated in Lloyd's memory, in lieu of
flowers.

Although
this obituary doesn’t mention his association with the Regiment, many old 15
Fd members will remember Lloyd, who was the Chief Clerk in the late ‘50s and
early 60’s. He came to 15 Fd in the late 50’s and I believe that he
reached the rank of WO2 (MWO for the newbies) then took a reduction in
rank, either because the Regiment was downsized or to take the job of Chief
Clerk, which he did for several years. He worked for several summers at
the Vernon Army Cadet Camp and a couple of people think that he was made a
Lieutenant for at least one summer there, working as the Camp Postmaster,
although that was probably ‘while so employed’ .
