Generation to Generation 

at Vancouver Cauldron on Remembrance Day

 

RUSI Vancouver-supported ceremony sets tone for November 11th

 

A brief and symbolic “Generation to Generation” ceremony in which the Vancouver cauldron will burst into flame as Canada’s flag is handed over from a Korea War veteran to a veteran of Afghanistan will set a respectful tone for Remembrance Day in Vancouver.

 

When:           8:00 AM Friday, November 11, 2011.

 

Where:         Cauldron - Jack Poole Plaza, Vancouver Convention Centre.

 

The intent is to capture the challenge from the famous war poem, In Flanders Fields “…to you from failing hands we throw the torch".

 

The ceremony will salute the new generation of Canadians who serve our country while acknowledging the service of former veterans.

 

bulletAn Honour Guard of 60 from 39 Brigade Group and HMCS Discovery will attend, along with the Legion Colour Party and RCMP sentries. Last Post will be sounded and the Lament piped

 

o        The cauldron will be extinguished at 11:02 am, to coincide with the ending of the Two-Minute Silence at the main Victory Square Remembrance Day Ceremony.

 

The ceremony is sponsored by the FortisBC, City of Vancouver, Vancouver Convention Centre, Veterans Affairs Canada, Royal United Services Institute-Vancouver (RUSI) and supported by 39 Canadian Brigade Group, HMCS Discovery, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services and RCMP E Division.

POPPY SIGNS APPROVED

 


Vancouver Councilor, Suzanne Anton, advised that our proposal to have poppy
signs placed throughout the city on streets that are named after
Canadian battles or our military personnel, has been approved.
